The park boasts 30 km of trails winding through the forest and around Gilman Lake. Whether you’re on foot, bike, snowshoes or cross-country skis, you’ll enjoy the great beauty of this boreal forest in every season. Take the Kiwanis Trail around Gilman Lake and discover the secrets of its flora and fauna, thanks to the interpretive panels that dot the trail. For the more adventurous, you can continue on to Lake Stevenson before retracing your steps.
The Mount Helios trail leads to the summit of this mountain named after the Greek god of the sun. At its summit, the multi-storey observation tower was burnt down by a forest fire in 2005. Even today, however, you’ll find a belvedere offering a breathtaking view of the town on one side, and a unique view of Lac Chibougamau and Lac aux Dorés on the other. The Mount Chalco trail will impress you with its breathtaking scenery. The Lac Sauvage trail crosses the lake of the same name and ends at Campbell Road.
In summer, the municipal beach access point offers several services. Picnic tables and a beach volleyball court are available. You can enjoy the page under the supervision of certified lifeguards and rent kayaks, canoes, pedal boats and paddle boards.
To showcase Gilman Lake and Little Gilman Lake, FaunENord, in collaboration with the City of Chibougamau, has created an audio interpretation circuit via canoe. By canoe or kayak, discover a living nature through the stories of colorful characters. They’ll take turns talking to you about a variety of topics: the park’s biodiversity, Aboriginal cultural and traditional practices, the park’s history, and more!
