Nibiischii National Park

Fishing at Albanel Lake in Nibiischii National Park

Nibiischii means “Land of Waters, the place where the great natural waters of the North are born”. The park’s territory extends over 12,000 km2, and up to 24,000 km2 including adjacent protected territories covering the Assinica and Lacs-Albanel-Mistassini-et-Waconichi wildlife reserves. The park boasts thousands of lakes and several spectacular rivers. It is the first national park managed by the Cree Nation of Mistissini.

Here you can hike, pick mushrooms, observe the rich flora and fauna, and enjoy the starry night sky. Canoe, kayak and paddleboard enthusiasts will find plenty to do in the wildlife reserves. Watercraft can be rented at certain sites. The many vast lakes are ideal for fishing for walleye, lake trout, brook trout and northern pike. In winter, snowshoeing and hok-skiing are among the many activities on offer.
