The Zec des Martres is located in hilly, remote and quiet terrain far from major roads, but beware of cliffs. Some of the land is burned, with many dead trees for campfires, and many small lakes nearby. The territory covers 424 km2 and includes 219 lakes. Of these, 150 are exploited for fishing. There are also 10 exploited rivers for sport fishing.
The proximity of Parc national des Grands-Jardins, Parc des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie and Réserve faunique des Laurentides makes Zec des Martres an ideal place to relax.
Fishing
Species include brook trout, Arctic char and Atlantic salmon. Several lakes are subject to special regulations. Some lakes are fly-fishing only. You can rent rowboats on some twenty different lakes.
Canoe-camping
A canoe-camping circuit takes you through Long, Gugy, Côte-à-Côte and Wabano lakes. After travelling between 3 and 6 km, you can sleep under the stars on the island of Côte-à-côte Lake. Enjoy a swim in the clear waters of Lake Wabano, or fish for trout along the way.
Hiking trails
Several trails are available for mountain hiking. The easy Mont de l’Alouette trail follows an old logging road about 1.5 km long. At 1040 m, it offers a splendid view of the landscape! The Croix trail totals 8.5 km round trip at intermediate level. It traverses the boreal forest, sometimes among ferns, sometimes among Labrador tea. You’ll discover a carpet of moss covering the richly biodiverse ground. At the end of the trail is a cross and a breathtaking view of Lac des Martres.
Trails in the Lac à l’Écluse area have been developed and are maintained by Traversée de Charlevoix. Several options are available, including the Sommets trail (Pic de l’Aigle) and the Lac-à-l’Empêche and Du Four mountain trails. You can pitch your tent near Lac à l’Écluse or rent a cottage.
The Sentier du Dôme is also maintained by the Traversée de Charlevoix. It is located at Km 23.2 of route 381. For this trail only, you can self-register on site with forms available on site.
