This 224.7 km² park is one of Quebec’s most beautiful natural monuments. Its name derives from the deep valleys cut into the high mountains. The Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie are among the highest walls east of the Rockies! The sheer drop in elevation, the beauty of the scenery and the distinctive course of the Malbaie River make this an enchanting site.
The park’s riches include exceptional wildlife (caribou, golden eagle, peregrine falcon, to name but a few), thrilling discovery activities (the famous bateau-mouche discovery cruise and the guided rabaska activity) and a rich history (the thrilling adventure of writer William H. Blake, the heroic days of the log drive, the creation of the park, etc.).
The Malbaie River valley is the most spectacular part of the park. Most visitors discover it on foot, from the summit of the Acropolis, or in a boat along the Malbaie River. However, exploring the valley on the bike path is just as enjoyable, if not more so, as it allows you to visit the Ruisseau Blanc waterfall. And why not take a picnic?
Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park, which has the privilege of being one of the core areas of the Charlevoix Biosphere Reserve, is accessible via the picturesque village of Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs.
