Réserve faunique des Laurentides, still referred to by many as “Parc des Laurentides”, links the capital region with Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. Covering an enormous area of 7,861 square kilometers, it is a paradise for native trout fishing, with its 2,000 lakes and rivers.
During summer, fall and winter, you can access them via the Camp Mercier and Le Relais reception areas, while the La Loutre reception area is open only in summer and fall. These are all located on Route 175.
Activities
Short-course cross-country skiers meet at Camp Mercier before embarking on a network of trails totalling 82 km, including 69 km of classic skiing and 13 km of skating. Six heated relay stations await cross-country skiers for a break. Snowshoeing is also possible on the 17 km of trails.
In summer, fishermen share their rich territory with canoe-camping enthusiasts paddling the Métabétchouane (intermediate level) and Aux Écorses (expert level) rivers. From July to September, cottage packages appeal to families who want to immerse themselves in nature.
Hosting
Open mainly in winter, Auberge Le Relais is a must for snowmobile enthusiasts.
The 135 cottages are spread across 27 accommodation sectors. Most are located on lakeshores.
Camping La Loutre, located 50 km from the southern entrance to the wildlife reserve, has 99 sites. Camping de la Belle-Rivière, north of the reserve, 164 km from the southern entrance on Route 169, has some 30 unserviced sites.
