Located on the rim of a meteorite crater, this mountainside trail features a series of escarpments overlooking Lac à l’Écluse. A pleasant hike takes you from boreal forest to taiga, with its sub-alpine vegetation. In this open spruce-lichen forest, you’ll find star lichen, kalmia, Labrador tea and other wild plants, along with blueberries in season. The trail takes us up to peaks offering breathtaking views of the immense mountainous hinterland: the Grive summit, Mont de l’Écluse, Butte-aux-mouches and the renowned Aigle peak will delight you.
Access
The trail is located on the territory of the ZEC des Martres. From the ZEC welcome station at km 26.8 of route 381, a 4 km forest road leads to the parking lot and trailhead in the Lac-à-l’Écluse sector. It’s possible to camp (no services) on site, or rent a cottage from La Traversée de Charlevoix. In winter, the trail is not cleared of snow, but you can snowshoe or ski it.
