Réserve faunique de Portneuf

Located 100 km northwest of Quebec City, the reserve covers an area of 775 km dotted with valleys, mountains and over 400 bodies of water, including 11 rivers. There are 4 short-distance hiking trails accessible to all. Near the Marmite Falls, a self-interpretation trail lets you learn more about the remains of a hydroelectric installation that went into operation in 1927. In the coulée creuse sector, a trail leads to a magnificent viewpoint over the mountains.

Several sites have been set aside for wildlife observation. Moose, black bears and blue herons can be spotted here. The reserve is also being developed for ruffed grouse and ruffed duck, as well as spawning grounds for brook trout. Day fishing is available on some 15 lakes and 11 rivers. For canoe-camping enthusiasts, two lake circuits, from beginner to experienced, total 40 km. The mandatory starting point is Lac Lapeyrère. Mountain bikers can enjoy 100 km of old-growth forest roads. Near Lac Bellevue, there are climbing walls for independent climbers.

In winter, all chalet guests can enjoy a network of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. The trails, totaling 50 km, are groomed mechanically after every storm. Ten shelters with wood-burning stoves are available for cross-country skiers to take a break.

There’s an outdoor skating rink near Lac Travers with a heated relay. Tubing is also available (inner tubes supplied).
