Desert River

The Désert River rises a few kilometers southeast of the Vérendrye wildlife reserve, then flows to Maniwaki, where it empties into the Gatineau River.
It descends over a distance of 103 km, which can be broken down into the courses of your choice.
There are Class I and II rapids, ideal for beginners or family outings.
You can start at Lac Désert, cross Lac Rond, then descend to Ruisseau Quinn just after Chute des Pins for a 15 km run.
In medium-water conditions, there are several camping beaches between Lac Désert and Lac Rond, as well as a site at Chute des Pins.
Downstream, the Ville de Maniwaki makes two rabaska canoes available to visitors free of charge.
For reservations, contact the city’s recreation department at 819-449-2335.
At this point, the river crosses the town, giving access to many isolated beaches.
