Located between the villages of St-Côme and Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, the Suspension Bridge entrance provides access to the northern sector.
On arrival, the Ouareau River comes into view. The river flows through the forest, descending between the mountains to the southeast; hence the name Ouareau Forest.
Near the reception area, under tall pine trees, some 30 rustic camping pitches have been set up.
The Murmures trail follows the river for about 5 km. Cross the river via the suspension bridge to continue on the National Trail. To the west, this trail joins the 54-km Massif trails for long-distance hiking.
Although the Ouareau Forest is considered a protected area, logging still takes place on its territory due to an agreement signed between the government and 14 forestry companies before it was granted regional park status in 1993.
Activities
The river is also suitable for canoeing, kayaking and rafting, but no supervision or services are provided. 3 km from the entrance to the Murmures trail is a summit with climbing walls.
Other entrances: Grande-Vallée entrance, Grande-Jetée entrance, Entrée des Contreforts and Entrée du Massif.
