Mini Compostelle Megantic

Hikers and mountain views on the Mini Compostelle Megantic circuit

A not-for-profit organization, the Parcours de Marche au Coeur de Mégantic offers a 115 km long hike that can be completed in 5 to 6 days. For a shorter hike, you can choose from three routes: Chemin du Lac (2-3 days), Chemin des 4 Monts (4 days) and Chemin des Sentiers (4 days). The Mini Compostelle Megantic, a complete route, is divided into two segments.

The first part circles the Massif Mégantic(Parc national du Mont-Mégantic) and you can choose between two routes, the Chemin des 4 Monts or the Chemin des Sentiers. The first choice, an 80 km loop, passes through 5 villages (Val-Racine, Hampden, Scotstown, La Patrie and Notre-Dame-des-Bois). It offers magnificent views of four mountains: Mont Mégantic, Mont Saint-Joseph, Mont Victoria and Mont Notre-Dame. The second option, a 90 km loop, is ideal for hikers who prefer to hike in the mountains. You’ll follow trails in Mont-Mégantic Park. From the summits, you’ll be able to admire extraordinary landscapes. Note that a national park pass is required.

The second part, the Chemin du Lac route, totals 48 km, passing through three villages: Val-Racine, Piopolis, Marston and the town of Lac-Mégantic. Hikers cover between 21 and 25 km per day from one municipality to the next.

Chemin des Sentiers

Starts in the Franceville sector of Parc du Mont-Mégantic. You can take the Escarpements trail. Leaving the park, you continue into the Marécage-des-Scots park as far as Scotstown. Continue on to Notre-Dame-des-Bois and return to the national park. You’ll take the La Traversée trail, which passes over several high peaks. The end of the trail takes you back to your vehicle.

Chemin des 4 Monts

Departing from Val-Racine, the circuit skirts the Samuel-Brisson ecological reserve and passes through the Marécage-des-Scots park. Dirt roads, road sections and trails then take you to La Patrie and Notre-Dame-des-Bois. The return journey to Val-Racine takes you along a road that skirts the Massif Mégantic, offering breathtaking views of mountains and valleys. You can visit the sanctuary of Mont Saint-Joseph.

Chemin du Lac

From the village of Val-Racine to Piopolis. This trail offers breathtaking scenery. Once in the pretty village of Piopolis, you’ll find the Clocher trail. You’ll pass the shores of Lac Mégantic. Dirt roads and highways then lead you to Marston. There are several ways to reach the town of Lac-Mégantic, including a forest trail and a bike path.
