The source of the Rivière du Gouffre is at Lac du Coeur, at an altitude of 823 metres, in the Zec des Martres. It flows north-south for 72 km through several municipalities, including Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs and Saint-Urbain. Its winding course ends in the St. Lawrence River at Baie-Saint-Paul. Since 1979, the Association de conservation de la vallée du Gouffre (ACVG) has been managing and protecting this river, which abounds in salmon spawning grounds and pools.
You can fish for salmon, rainbow trout and brook trout. Access to the river is via trails and rest areas along the river. Note that a Quebec Atlantic salmon sport fishing license is required. Rivière du Gouffre is also ideal for a family canoe or kayak trip. The Katabatik company offers a boat rental service, assisted by an unguided shuttle, for descents lasting between 4 and 6 hours.
Access
Canoes and kayaks accessible via Baie-Saint-Paul. For fishing, reception at 601 rue Sainte-Anne in Saint-Urbain, near the bridge.
