At an altitude of 485 m, Mont Bélair is one of the highest points in the Quebec City region. Its territory is characterized by rocky escarpments and boasts a remarkable diversity of flora and fauna. There are three peaks, three lakes, wetlands and woodlands.
The summit area also offers a network of hiking trails for exploring Lac Alain and the surrounding area in summer. In winter, the Mont Bélair summit is not accessible by car, and parking is closed. In summer, a network of “single-track” mountain bike trails, some 7 km in length, is now accessible.
Located in the Parc naturel du Mont-Bélair, the 31-hectare Base de Plein Air La Découverte is a popular destination for nature lovers.
Enjoyed in all seasons by hiking enthusiasts, it offers a wide range of recreational facilities, including a pool and paddling pool, picnic areas, various sports fields and cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. A heated refuge is available in winter, offering a superb view of Lac Alain. A network of hiking trails has also been laid out around Lac Boivin and near the wetlands. The marsh can be viewed from an observation tower.
Note: leashed dogs are allowed on walking trails only.
