Located some 70 km north of Quebec City, this experimental forest is managed by Université Laval’s Faculty of Forestry and Geomatics. Its 412 km2 territory lies in the foothills of the Laurentian Mountains, in the heart of the boreal forest. Its relief forms a plateau with an average altitude of 750 metres and peaks of up to 1000 metres.
Due to the climate, the predominant forest stand is white birch fir. The Montmorency forest is drained by the Montmorency River and one of its tributaries, the Noire River. There are four lakes: Piché, Bédard, Laflamme and Joncas.
In addition to teaching activities, school groups and the general public benefit from educational programs and outdoor activities such as fly fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ski-touring (Hok skiing) and nature observation (including moose watching).
