The hiking trail network of the municipality of Messines, located in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau in the Outaouais region, offers visitors a total of 15 kilometers of trails to explore. These trails are divided into five distinct routes, nestled in a wooded area between Petit and Grand Lac des Cèdres.
Notable elements of this network include a covered pedestrian bridge. With its sturdy structure, it provides a visually pleasing passageway between different parts of the route, allowing walkers to enjoy the panoramic views over the water.
The trail network also includes a grotto, a natural curiosity that attracts many visitors. This landscape feature adds an interesting aspect to the hike, offering a unique opportunity for exploration. Visitors to the network can also benefit from an educational component thanks to a series of themed posters. These posters provide information on the different tree species present on the site, enriching the hiking experience with a learning dimension about the local flora.
During the winter season, the network is not closed. Trails are groomed for cross-country skiing. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skier, you’ll find terrain to suit your skills.
Located about 15 minutes from the village of Messines, this network of hiking trails offers an excellent opportunity to connect with nature, whether for an afternoon hike or a full-day excursion. For an outdoor experience in the Gatineau Valley, the Cedar Lakes trails are a must.
