Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal

Located on the north slope of Mount Royal, in the heart of the city of Montreal, the site of Saint Joseph’s Oratory features vast green spaces, flowers, large trees and the magnificent Garden of the Way of the Cross with its imposing sculptures.
It also features a majestic building with a 97-metre-high dome (second only to St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome), a small original chapel, a votive chapel and a crypt.
The first chapel was built by Brother André, Brother Abundius and a few lay friends in 1904, while work on the entire site was completed in 1967.
The sanctuary is one of the world’s most popular pilgrimage sites.
It attracts some two million visitors every year from all over the world.
It is also the largest church in Canada.
The Oratory Museum is currently closed for renovations.
Don’t miss the exhibition on the life of Saint Brother André and the many works of religious heritage.
