Le réservoir Blanc – Haut-Saint-Maurice

The Blanc reservoir, a man-made reservoir, stretches over 82 square kilometers from the new Rapide-des-Coeurs power station near Windigo to the Rapide-Blanc dam.
Here, the Saint-Maurice River widens to form this magnificent body of water.
By canoe or kayak, you’ll feel like you’re alone in this magnificent place.
The banks, littered with whitewashed logs and branches, are a reminder of the days of the log drive.
Many of the islands and islets are ideal for camping, as the hikes here can last several days.
In addition to navigating the Blanc reservoir, you can also easily navigate the Pierriche and Jolie rivers.
Access to Lac Flamand and Rivière Flamand is about 25 km away.
The reservoir has three free boat launches with ample parking.
The one to the south, near the Quoquochee campground, is made of gravel with a very gentle slope and provides access to Flamand Lake and River (beware of bridges, max. height 6 feet).
The one near the Rothman outfitter, also gravel, gives direct access to the Blanc reservoir, but is suitable for rowboats rather than large craft.
The ramp upstream of the Rapide-Blanc hydroelectric power station gives access to the Blanc reservoir.
This ramp is fully concreted and designed for all types of craft.

Access

Usually paved all the way; but the spring 2018 flooding, forces people to take a detour via a gravel road.
The reservoir is about 1h30 (60km) from La Tuque.
From the La Tuque tourist information office; 550, rue Saint-Louis.
Continue on rue Saint-Louis, turn right on rue Saint-Joseph.
Turn left on rue Bostonnais.
At the “Y” turn left, La Croche sector.
Follow Hydro-Québec’s yellow “La Trenche” and “Rapide-Blanc” signs.

Activities

Guide maps are available for rapids, portages and campsites on certain rivers.
You can also fish for walleye and pike.

Hosting

Some rivers offer primitive campsites, others camp in the wilderness.
You can pitch your tent on one of the many islands!
