Located in the Haute-Côte-Nord and Fjord-du-Saguenay MRCs, Zec Chauvin was created in 1978 to rationally manage the harvesting of local wildlife. It is bounded by the Sainte-Marguerite River to the south and the Sainte-Marguerite Nord-Est River to the east and northeast. Its territory covers an area of 615 km2. There are a total of 249 lakes, 231 of which are used for fishing. At Lac Régis, magnificent waterfalls grace the landscape. North of the Zec, in the Akumunan biodiversity reserve, is the spectacular Bras-Pilote waterfall.
Activities
At Zec Chauvin, you can hunt moose, black bear, grouse and hare. You can fish for brook trout (speckled trout) and Arctic char (red trout). The area is also home to a number of ducks, including the Barrow’s goldeneye. This diving duck is considered one of Eastern Canada’s vulnerable birds. Many wild berries can be found throughout the territory. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, canoeing, paddle boarding, mountain biking and mountain biking.
Lodgings
The zec has 90 serviced campsites. These include Camping Maltais, Domaine Chauvin, Camping Ulric and Camping de la Chaine. Wilderness camping is also available. Fully autonomous, eco-responsible camping.
