Île-Laval Wildlife Refuge

This 31.5-hectare, 75-metre-high island, located on Crown land, is one of the few places on the Côte-Nord where such a wide variety of waterfowl can be found.
It is home to a heronry, the largest colony of black-legged kittiwakes, the largest cormorant and the largest colony of herring gulls in the region.
It’s also home to the common eider, the third most important nesting site for this species.
Numerous other nesting bird species can also be found here.
To preserve the wildlife habitat and its species, all access to the island is forbidden.
The island can only be explored by kayak.
The island is located in Laval Bay, sheltered from the wind and waves.
Paddling is easy.
If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of little penguins and kakawis. Note: the only launching point is at Forestville harbour.
