Covering an area of 1,394 km2, the reserve is located north of and adjacent to Parc national du Mont-Tremblant. It consists of a mixed forest. There are over 450 lakes, as well as the Rivière Rouge and Rivière Matawin. The main animal species are moose, white-tailed deer, black bear, wolf, lynx and hare. Several bird species are present, including the ruffed grouse.
Activities
Fishing: brook trout, northern pike, walleye, lake trout, bass and yellow perch.
Hunting: moose, white-tailed deer, small game and waterfowl.
Canoe-camping: descent of the Matawin River at the start of the season and until June 24 when the water level is high or medium (intermediate level), descent of the Rouge River for experts in rapids.
Snowmobiling: 80 km route linking the Lanaudière region to the Laurentians.
Quad: a 94 km trail that crosses the wildlife reserve from west to east, creating a link between the Laurentian and Lanaudière regions.
Services: rental of rowboats, canoes, paddleboards, kayaks and floatation jackets.
Access
This reserve extends over the Laurentides and Lanaudière regions, with entrances at the La Macaza reception at 2002 chemin du Lac Macaza and the Saint-Michel reception at 6037 chemin des Cyprès, respectively.
