The Mastigouche River rises at Lac du Mardi in St-Zénon. It descends southeastward through the Zec des Nymphes territory, skirting that of Réserve faunique Mastigouche. After 5 km, a widening of the river forms a lake of the same name. A boat launch is available. Here you can see otters and beavers. The river then continues downstream for several kilometers, ending its course in Lac Maskinongé at St-Grabriel-de-Brandon.
Several lakes criss-cross the route. We also pass through the Centre du Pourvoyeur Mastigouche, where speckled trout are caught. There are a few rapids in this sector. Next, we cross Lac Sainte-Rose. The downstream section is the most interesting for whitewater rafting. There are several R1, R2 and R3 rapids. For camping, you’ll need to know the area, as there are several private lots along the shore.
