Aerial view of the Pointe-de-l'Est National Wildlife Area

The 724-hectare Pointe-de-l’Est National Wildlife Area is located at the northeastern tip of the Magdalen Islands archipelago. It features a wide variety of wildlife habitats, including red sandstone outcrops, dunes, crowberry barrens, salt meadows, coniferous forests, marshes and brackish and saltwater ponds.

Situated in a maritime environment, the reserve is home to over 150 bird species, including many migratory birds, particularly shorebirds such as the silver plover and the sanderling sandpiper. It is also home to a dozen species of mammal, including red fox and coyote.

To discover the reserve, you can follow two interpretive trails: La Camarine and L’Échouerie. These trails can be hiked independently or with a guided tour.
