La Bluff, cliffs and caves

Excursion to the caves of the La Bluff cliff on the Magdalen Islands

The La Bluff cliffs are located near the Bassin Ouest beach on Grande-Entrée Island.
They are formed of red sandstone, a sedimentary rock typical of the islands.
Thousands of years ago, during sedimentation, pockets of salt accumulated in this rock.
Over time, the tides dissolved the salt to form surface caves, like those found at the foot of the La Bluff cliffs.
Auberge La Salicorne offers guided tours of these caves.
Participants wear an isothermal suit and flotation jacket.
You’ll pass through a number of narrow tunnels, some in calm water, others in rough water.
Difficulty levels range from intermediate to advanced, depending on the waves.
You can also choose to visit the cliffs and caves by kayak.
