Chic-Chocs Mountain Inn

In the heart of Réserve faunique de Matane, this three-storey inn, set at an altitude of 615 metres, offers an extraordinary nature experience. With 18 rooms and a capacity of 36 guests, the atmosphere is one of intimacy. Large windows on the second floor offer panoramic views of the 60 square km of mountains and forest that surround the inn. Mount Matawees (1073 m), Mount Collins (1036 m) and Hélène Falls are among the magnificent vantage points. For outings, hikers can venture into the forest and access several peaks, or simply look around at the flora and fauna on offer. The vegetation, mainly fir, birch and tundra, also conceals some rare species. Three large cervids dominate the territory: moose, caribou and white-tailed deer. In the air, birds of prey such as bald eagles, hawks and falcons soar over the region. For lovers of fine dining, chef Alain Laflamme’s meals, included in the package, are served around large tables. Snacks are available at all times, as are lunch boxes for outings.

Access to this resort is from Cap-Chat, where you leave your car and take a minibus. The minibus takes you 55 km south on a steeply graded route with exceptional views. In winter, the last 40 km of this route is covered by a tracked bus.

Activities

Workshops and themed outings, such as wildlife observation or an introduction to mountain safety, are planned daily by our guides. They are also available to help you plan your activities and what to bring with you. The 100 km of forest roads can be explored by mountain bike, courtesy of the lodge. Canoes are also available to take you to one of the six lakes in the area, perhaps for fly-fishing for trout. In winter, when snow is plentiful, you can challenge a climb on Meta skis, sealskin-lined skis, splitboard or snowshoes.

Hosting

Packages of two to seven days are available from $250 per person per night, depending on the time of year, in single or double occupancy. Packages include lodging, meals, snacks, transportation from Cap-Chat, guides and outdoor and safety equipment.
