This 48 km route, which stretches from Cap-Tourmente (winter departure from Saint-Tite-des-Caps) to the village of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, allows you to contemplate the majestic St. Lawrence River and the islands of the Montmagny archipelago at an altitude ranging from 500 to 800 metres, as you stroll from cape to cape. Day and long hikes are available.
For daily snowshoeing in Saint-Tite-des-Caps, there are 7 trails ranging in length from 4 to 12.8 km (28 linear km in total). At the summit of Le Massif, 10 km (linear) of snowshoe trails and 35 km of cross-country ski trails, including 15 km for skate skiing. Recently, an 8.3 km trail has been reserved for freestyle (skate skiing).
In winter, the forest is enchanting and the river sparkles! The scenic beauty of the Sentier des Caps de Charlevoix in winter has captured the hearts of Quebecers!
The warm season brings a symphony of dazzling smells and colors. The Cap Rouge and Cap Gribane areas also boast many spring flowers and huge yellow birch and mountain ash trees.
For long-distance hikers, several routes are available in huts and campsites, either independently or with luggage and vehicle transport. Check-in is at the reception desk (see note), and trailheads are at parking P2 in summer.
In autumn, take the time to watch the graceful great white “Vs” formed by the snow geese as they pass beneath you from the headlands.
Notes:
The main reception area for the Sentier des Caps de Charlevoix is located at 2, rue Leclerc (at the corner of Route 138 next to the Esso) in Saint-Tite-Des-Caps. Trailheads are located at parking lots P2 and P3 in summer, and at parking lot P1 in winter.
L’accueil de charlevoix is located at the summit of Le Massif de Petite-Rivière-St-François, at 61 Chemin du Massif in Petite-Rivière-St-François. This reception is open in winter only. It provides access to cross-country ski trails, and equipment rental is available.
