Opémican National Park

Located in southern Abitibi-Témiscamingue, between the municipalities of Laniel and Témiscaming and bordered on either side by lakes Témiscamingue and Kipawa, Parc national d’Opémican aims to protect a sample of the southern Laurentian natural region.
Covering an area of 252.5 km2, the park, which opened in 2018, is divided into three distinct sectors: the Rivière-Kipawa sector, the Pointe-Opémican sector and the Lac-Marsac sector.
A paradise for nautical activities, an ideal family destination, a stroll through the history of log driving, the Pointe-Opémican sector is a compendium of pleasures for all in an enchanting setting.
The campground, near Lake Témiscamingue and its sandy shores, features some 60 sites under tall pines and a small village of 11 Étoile ready-to-camp sites.
The Rivière-Kipawa experience includes a small children’s adventure course near the Grande Chute, 4 Étoile ready-to-camp units and a rustic campground near the walls of Lake Témiscamingue!
Whether by canoe, kayak, bike or on foot, the landscapes of Lake Kipawa, its famous river and Lake Témiscamingue suddenly become accessible from the small village of Laniel!
Parc national d’Opémican will quickly become a popular destination for adventurers, with its spectacular backcountry.
Visitors will be amazed by the extent of the park’s cultural heritage, from the Opémican Heritage Trail to the Anishinabeg presence on the territory.
This unique place of discovery, characterized by the dominant presence of large white and red pines, symbolizing the junction of the deciduous and boreal domains on its territory, possesses the essential elements for the composition of a remarkable landscape: a rugged, low relief accompanied by numerous rock faces that are mainly found along Lake Témiscamingue.
