Lake Kipawa covers an area of 300 km2, with 1,600 km of shoreline and countless islands and islets.
It’s a boater’s paradise for canoeing, kayaking and scuba diving.
Excellent fishing for walleye and lake trout.
Lac Kipawa is easily accessible via a free boat launch for boats of all sizes.
It is located to the south in the municipality of Kipawa.
There’s also a public dock, a parking lot and a park with picnic tables and toilets.
Swimmers can also enjoy themselves.
At the northwest end of the lake, in the municipality of Laniel, Baie du Canal and a heronry are exceptional natural sites.
There are also two picnic areas on Île Clermont and Île du Huard.
You can also see the Laniel dam on the Kipawa River.
8 km north of the municipality is the 10 km Grande chute hiking trail.
It offers interesting views of the Kipawa River, its falls, rapids and kettles.
Occasionally, kayakers can be seen descending the river’s tumultuous waters.
The lake is located on the ancestral territory of the Algonquins of Hunter’s Point.
The name Kipawa comes from the Algonquin language and means “It’s closed”.
The lake’s many bays make it a veritable labyrinth.
