Description
The Canal de Chambly National Historic Site trail and its banks provide a magnificent backdrop for picnics, walks, bike rides and boat-watching. This bucolic trail offers an outdoor escape into the heart of history.
The bike path is part of Route Verte no. 1 and thus of the Trans Canada Trail. It also links up with Route verte no. 2 from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. A 110 km loop can be completed using the Montérégiade, Route des Champs and Chambly Canal bike paths.
Once a towpath built for carters and their horses, whose job it was to pull heavy barges loaded with goods, the trail now welcomes some 300,000 visitors in summer.
