The Mashteuiatsh Amerindian Museum

Established in 1977 on the shores of the Pekuakami (Lac Saint-Jean), the mission of the Musée amérindien is to safeguard Ilnu cultural heritage, and to encourage its development, promotion and transmission to future generations.
The Museum is the guardian of the living memory of a people who have survived their own history, of a word that has refused to sink into oblivion.
It gives a voice to other Native American nations, who also have their own stories to tell.
The Musée amérindien is a showcase for contemporary Ilnu and Native creation, cultures that, like all living cultures, continue to evolve.
To visit the Musée amérindien de Mashteuiatsh is to journey through millennia of living memory and share in the riches of an evolving culture.
