Located north of Lac Saint-Jean, in the Maria-Chapdelaine RCM, the park encompasses and protects fourteen distinct sectors, covering an area of 100 km². It includes, among others, the Parc de la Pointe-des-Pères, featuring the Chute-des-Pères, an observation tower, five kilometers of hiking trails, interpretive panels on the region’s fauna, flora and history, and a fruit orchard open to the public.
Summer and winter alike, a network of trails is available for hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Quality tours are also available for quad and snowmobilers. Outfitters associated with the park offer backcountry canoe-camping, dog-sledding and rafting trips. Trail access is free, and leashed dogs are permitted.
The Mistassibi River, in the Eaux-Vives area, is ideal for rafting and kayaking. Wilderness camping is available at sites along the river. Backcountry camping is also available in the l’Écluse sector, on the Rivière aux Rats, and in the Albanel sector, on the Rivière Mistassini.
Fourteen rivers run through the Grandes-Rivières regional park: Rivière Mistassini, Mistassibi, Péribonka, Ashuapmushuan, Ouasiemsca, Micosas and Rivière aux Rats.
