Carleton-sur-Mer, a major tourist attraction on the Baie des Chaleurs, has long been a destination for many Quebecers.
Being further upstream in the Baie des Chaleurs, and therefore shallower and narrower, the waters around Carleton-sur-Mer are ideal for swimming during the summer season.
In fact, it’s one of the few places in Quebec where you can swim in the sea.
Some beaches offer warmer water, while others are sought-after for their tranquility and natural beauty.
Located in the heart of the Carleton sector, the Carleton municipal beach stretches over a kilometer of sand and pebbles, and is particularly lively in August, during the blues festival.
It’s by far the most popular.
It is home to Écovoile Baie-des-Chaleurs, a sailing school that also offers dinghy and kayak rentals.
If you take the road to the wharf, towards the end of the Carleton bank, you’ll find a beach in a natural environment with very little traffic.
This pebble beach is a great place to look for agates and shells.
On the other bank, along Avenue du Phare, you have three choices.
First, there’s the campsite beach.
This long, sandy beach is one of the most beautiful.
Then, at the far end of Laroque Bank, Pointe Tracadigash beach stands out for its natural beauty and splendid views.
In fact, it’s the ideal place to admire the sunset.
