Parc national du Bic

Located in the maritime estuary of the St. Lawrence, this park covers an area of 33.2 km2. Its capes, bays, coves, islands and mountains have always been its pride and joy. The park’s atmosphere is unique. Think of the sounds and smells of the sea and the caress of the sea breeze.

Thousands of seabirds nest here and rare plants flourish on the rocky headlands. To your amazement, seals bask in the sun close to the shore. It’s beautiful, calm and relaxing… And the sunset, recognized as one of the most beautiful in the world.

The many activities and services offered by Parc national du Bic guarantee an unforgettable stay. These include hiking, biking (rentals available) and kayaking. A shuttle is available to take you up to Pic Champlain, 346 meters above sea level. You can also take part in the discovery program: wildlife observation, theatre activities, children’s activities, minibus rides and evening activities.

In winter, the park dons its white mantle and promises breathtaking panoramic views. Discover it on foot, snowshoe, Nordic ski or fatbike. At night, try out a cosy yurt, rustic camp or chalet, or opt for winter camping!

Havre du Bic is a natural anchorage that was explored by early French explorers, including Jacques Cartier, who visited the bay on August 29, 1535.

In 1762, the first British governor of the Province of Quebec, James Murray, established a marine pilot station on Île du Bic.

At the turn of the 20th century, farming became more important. The Dumas, Michaud, Rioux and Doucet families each established a farm in the park, raising livestock, logging, seal hunting and fishing with nets or weirs.

From the 1960s onwards, the idea of creating a park to make the area accessible was discussed. The park was officially created on November 7, 1984, under the name Parc de conservation du Bic.
