Marais Antoine

Located on the shores of Lake Abitibi, the Antoine Marsh is an immense 280-hectare wetland that is home to an exceptional number of animal and plant species.
There are two 1.5 km hiking trails.
You’ll pass through fields before entering a marshy forest via a boardwalk.
We then climb a hillock covered in mixed forest.
At the summit, a lookout on a rocky headland offers a bird’s-eye view of the marsh, Lake Abitibi and the dam that maintains the water level.
A footbridge on stilts provides access to the interior of the marsh.
More than 150 bird species have been recorded here, including bald eagles, northern harriers, American kestrels, sandhill cranes, yellow rails and many others.
Its waters are frequented by numerous pike.
The terrestrial fauna includes beaver, moose, tourist, and a large number of small rodents.
As for the flora, we see iris versicolore, large-fruited ribbon-grass, water lilies and latifolia sagittaria.
Wild mushrooms and berries of all kinds, including a large number of blueberries, make the marsh a veritable open-air market.
