Père Jacques-Buteux section of the National Trail
Description
Located in the municipality of Grandes-Piles in the Mauricie region, this section of the Sentier national runs alongside the majestic Rivière Saint-Maurice into a mixed forest that also includes pine forests, maple groves and cedar stands. Several giant pines can be seen along the way. The first part, the ascent to the Bouche des falaises, offers a very good physical challenge to hikers, who will soon be rewarded with a magnificent view of the river. The trail then crosses a number of lakes, streams and small waterfalls, providing great vantage points and watering holes for wildlife. Moose, white-tailed deer, beaver, snowshoe hare and many others are the most conspicuous animals in this forest.
