Also known as the “Petit Compostelle” of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, this 215 km walking circuit links the statue of Notre-Dame-du-Saguenay, perched on the heights of Cap Trinité in Rivière-Éternité, to the statue of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, set in the grotto of the Ermitage Saint-Antoine, a national sanctuary, in Lac-Bouchette.
From the hills and valleys of the Saguenay Fjord to the plains and hillsides of Lac Saint-Jean, the trail takes in the region’s spiritual, natural and cultural sites.
Starting in Fjord-du-Saguenay National Park, the route is divided into 10 stages and passes through as many towns and villages: Rivière-Éternité, Saint-Félix-d’Otis, La Baie, Chicoutimi, Jonquière, Lac Kénogami, Hébertville, Desbiens, Saint-André and Lac-Bouchette.
The Sentier Notre-Dame Kapatakan offers a complete hike in 10 or 14 days, as well as the possibility of trying out five one-day routes (round-trip). Along the way, you’ll find accommodations in hotels, motels, B&Bs, inns and campgrounds (except in Chicoutimi). Remember to book your accommodation during the high tourist season.
Did you know? “kapatakan” means trail in the Innu language.
