The Secteur des gorges de la rivière Sainte-Anne, an exceptional geological phenomenon stretching from Saint-Alban to Saint-Casimir, is a jewel in the crown of western Portneuf.
What makes this site unique is the combination of nature-based activities and the discovery of part of our heritage (industrial and energy heritage) with the presence of the former Saint-Alban II power station.
Visit the interpretation center to see the remains of one of Quebec’s oldest hydroelectric power plants.
Action plans d’eau plein air, the organization in charge of the Gorge Sector, offers gentle adventure activities that are accessible to people of all ages.
You can take a simple hike along the trails that have been laid out to explore the forest and access the various viewpoints on the Sainte-Anne River.
Canoes and kayaks are available for hire: 14 km of the river are navigable in calm water, with shuttle service available.
You can also choose to float down the river in an inflatable raft.
For the more adventurous, there’s rock-climbing on the wall, suspended above the eddies, but you’ll need a card from the Fédération québécoise de la montagne et de l’escalade.
There are also two caves to visit in and around the gorge: Grotte Cascatelle and Grotte le trou du Diable.
Two chalets, the Maison du gardien and the Éco-chalet, are available for rent.
Rustic campgrounds and RV sites are also available.
The hydroelectric dam and the Saint-Alban III power station, a beach with a volleyball court, picnic tables and a hebertism trail complete the site’s activities and attractions.
