Frédéric-Back Park is a large multi-purpose park in Montreal, located in the borough of Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension, Quebec. It represents a unique metamorphosis, begun in 1995, of a former quarry and landfill site into a vast green space that, when completed, will occupy a surface area of 153 hectares at the heart of the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex.
The park now offers two new areas for everyone’s enjoyment: Boisé Est and Parvis Papineau. Both areas offer a host of attractions: cultural, sporting and educational activities, festive events, trails for walking, jogging, cycling and snowshoeing in winter, lookouts, commemorative artwork, unusual furniture, picnic areas and more. On one of them, in the Boisé Est, a 360-degree field of view provides a beautiful perspective of downtown, Mount Royal and the Olympic Stadium. A not-to-be-missed attraction: the spheres covering the biogas collection wells, with their unique design, become phosphorescent at dusk!
The site will open gradually between now and 2023.
