Located in the municipality of Grandes-Piles in the Mauricie region, this section of the National Trail totals 13 linear km of intermediate-level trails. It runs alongside the majestic Saint-Maurice River and then into a mixed forest that includes pine, maple and cedar stands.
You’ll have access to magnificent river views, several lakes, streams and small waterfalls. The most noticeable animals are moose, white-tailed deer, beaver, snowshoe hare, chipmunk, black bear, pileated woodpecker, red-shouldered hawk, little hawk, barred owl, marsh frog, garter snake and northern dusky salamander.
At kilometer 9.4, you arrive at the marvellous Lac Clair, a jewel of nature where tranquillity is the order of the day for a true outdoor escape! It’s possible to spend the night in a campground, refuge or prospector’s tent, for a fee, managed by Aire Nature Grandes-Piles.
