Located in the Lac Saint-Pierre Biosphere Reserve, the Pointe-à-Caron site boasts exceptional flora and fauna. Over a hundred species of birds can be observed, including the great blue heron, birds of prey and ducks. The Pointe-à-Caron territory covers 58.5 hectares, offering a wide range of habitats: from open water to forest, low marshes and treed swamps.
The site is visited by almost 20,000 people every year, not least because of a wooden footbridge on stilts that allows visitors to walk across the floodplain at any time of year. The footbridge is 985 metres long and has two observation lookouts.
The 900-metre-long walking trail offers visitors the chance to stroll along the canal and discover another part of the wetland, including a magnificent silver maple grove. The trail ends with a magnificent window onto Lac Saint-Pierre.
Visitors can take advantage of urban furniture such as benches for resting and enjoying the tranquility of the site, as well as waste garbage cans for disposing of their garbage properly. Interpretation panels also allow visitors to learn more about the site’s riches.
Parking is available for visitors, as is a picnic area with barbecue facilities.
Access to the site is free and open to the public.
