Melville Island Park is an area of almost 160 hectares, more than three-quarters of which is wooded. Its natural features include mature forests, two islands – Île Melville and Île Banane – and a 70-metre-high mountain. This magnificent park is located in the heart of the city of Shawinigan. The majestic Rivière Saint-Maurice winds its way through this territory, which is used for recreational and tourism purposes and which, in spring, when a hydroelectric dam is opened, generates a waterfall with a long history.
More specifically, the park offers camping, cottages, floating homes and inns; a range of outdoor activities, such as hiking in the forest, the Arbraska Shawinigan aerial park with aerial circuits and zip lines, a water playground and entertainment. On the Saint-Maurice River, the park offers watercraft rentals: canoes, kayaks, rabaskas, paddle boards, rowboats and pontoons.
In winter, Val-Mauricie is the place to be for downhill skiing, tubing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and more.
