Formerly the site of a hydroelectric dam, Hydro Québec and the Ville de Sainte-Adèle have worked together to protect this area of the river by developing a resort accessible to the public. The park has been in existence for over 20 years, and the main objective is to preserve the rustic character of the environment. All facilities are designed with this objective in mind, and are built with safety and visitor-friendliness in mind. A river to behold and full of surprises.
Over 10 kilometers of hiking trails wind through a mixed forest. The Grand sentier follows the river all the way to the site of the old dam. Trail no. 2 gives you a closer look at the river and a glimpse of some of its rapids. Trail no. 9 leads to a viewpoint overlooking the Sainte-Adèle region. In winter, 8 km of trails are available for snowshoeing and almost 2 km for snow walking.
Wade-fishing enthusiasts are also well catered for in summer. Over 9,000 trout are stocked here. There’s also a fly-fishing pond.
Doncaster River Regional Park also offers mushroom picking and geocaching, with some 15 caches placed by volunteers and walkers. You’ll also be able to spot many species of birds, including blue jays, chickadees, white-throated sparrows, nuthatches, goldfinches, redpolls and woodpeckers.
