Mount Albert

A classic of Quebec hiking. This mountain in the Parc de la Gaspésie rises to an altitude of 1151 metres. At the summit is an impressive plateau, known as the Table à Moïse, which forms an island of tundra frequented by a few herds of woodland caribou. At either end of the plateau, there are two summits: Albert Nord and Albert Sud.

The Tour-du-Mont-Albert, a very difficult 17 km hike, requires 6 to 8 hours of effort. But it’s well worth the effort.

Here you’ll find Gîte du Mont-Albert, a 4-star mountain inn with an international reputation. You’ll be charmed by its warm decor, fine cuisine and incomparable service. The B&B is open to all visitors to Parc national de la Gaspésie (access fees extra).

How to get there

Take Route 132 to Sainte-Anne-des-Monts. Then take Route 299 to Parc national de la Gaspésie. From Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, it’s about 40 km to the Mont-Albert sector.

Mount Albert was so named by surveyor-geologist Alexander Murray (1810-1884), who reached the summit on August 26, 1845, the birthday of the Prince of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Albert (1819-1861), husband of Queen Victoria.
