Saint-Pierre Mountain

View of Mont St-Pierre and wind turbines

Located in La Rédemption in Bas-Saint-Laurent, this site was first developed in 2014 by the municipality and the MRC de La Mitis, and then in 2018 by the Fédération québécoise de la montagne et de l’escalade (FQME). In partnership with the original founders, the latter ensures the sustainable development of the site. Thanks to maintenance and development work, Mont Saint-Pierre now offers off-piste mountain skiing, snowshoeing and hiking. At the summit, at an altitude of 906 m, there is an observation tower offering beautiful panoramic views of the region. It is also accessible via a mountain bike trail.

The site is ideal for an introduction to mountain skiing in a semi-isolated region. In fact, it takes about 3 km to get to the foot of the first sector and another 1 km to the summit. Two sectors with a variety of difficulty levels to suit all levels of skier. The descent has a vertical drop of 140 metres. Note: The site is affiliated to the FQME. You need to be a member to ski here.

Whether snowshoeing in winter or hiking in summer, a 6 km trail takes you to the summit, then loops back to the starting point for a total of 14 km. The hike begins through fields. In the distance, you can see Mont Saint-Pierre and its wind turbines. Soon, you’re in the woods. The route alternates between forest roads, narrower paths, rocky terrain and wooded areas. Finally, we climb rapidly to reach the summit and Tour-Val-Marie; the outward journey takes around 2 hours.
