Véloroute Marie-Hélène Prémont
Description
Named after one of the region’s great athletes and stretching for almost 55 kilometers, the Véloroute Marie-Hélène-Prémont is a bicycle path, a segment of Route Verte 5, located in the Côte-de-Beaupré regional county municipality in Canada. It is the extension of the Corridor du Littoral outside the limits of Quebec City.
It starts at the foot of Montmorency Falls, then passes through seven towns and municipalities in the region: Boischatel, L’Ange-Gardien, Château-Richer, Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, Beaupré, Saint-Joachim and finally Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges. The route ends at either the Cap-Tourmente Wildlife Reserve or the Mont-Sainte-Anne trails.
Installed on a designated roadway, i.e. on a low-speed road (50 km/h), this bike lane allows you to admire and perceive from a new angle the attractions of Avenue Royale, aptly nicknamed the Route de la Nouvelle-France, one of the oldest roads in North America.
All along the route, a dozen bike stops are equipped with water, picnic tables and parking facilities.
In the Municipality of Saint-Joachim, a 10-km section called the “Tour du Cap-Tourmente” allows you to discover a rich natural and historical heritage: Centre d’initiation au patrimoine, La Grande Ferme, the Cap-Tourmente National Wildlife Area, as well as the Saint-Joachim church and presbytery.
