Rideau Canal

Rideau Canal National Historic Site

The Rideau Canal is a 202-kilometre network of magnificent lakes, rivers and man-made canals that winds its way from Kingston, at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, to Ottawa, Canada’s capital.
It is one of the historic canals administered by Parks Canada, whose role is to protect and present the canal’s natural and historic features, and to ensure safe navigation.

Rideau Canal Skateway

In winter, the historic Rideau Canal becomes the world’s largest skating rink.
The 7.8-kilometre skateway winds through the heart of downtown Ottawa.
Along the skateway, you’ll find concessions where you can rent skates, buy a hot drink or the traditional BeaverTail pastry.

How to get there

The Rideau Canal is located on the south shore of the Ottawa River, and can be accessed via the Alexandra Bridge from Hull to Gatineau.
