The House of Aboriginal Peoples Museum is a place of exchange, sharing and rapprochement, dedicated to raising awareness of the First Nations. The only multinational museum located outside the Aboriginal community, the institution showcases the knowledge and know-how of First Peoples through museum, environmental and gastronomic activities.
La Maison autochtone website lets you discover various facets of the aboriginal cultures of Quebec and Canada. Inaugurated at the turn of the century, in the year 2000, La Maison autochtone is a tangible trace of the International Decade of the World’s Indigenous People, launched by the United Nations Assembly on December 9, 1994. Marked by an original birth inspired by the social approach of its founder, painter-sculptor André Michel, and by its off-reserve location, La Maison autochtone is a multi-nation site, recognized by the Quebec government as a Social Economy Cultural Enterprise.
Activities
La Maison autochtone’s animation team brings the various exhibits to life and reveals the museum’s secrets during dynamic guided tours. Many workshops and activities, day camps for children aged 6 to 12, and annual activities such as the inevitable Sugar Bush dinner are offered.
