The Sentier national en Mauricie is a linear hiking trail that crosses the Mauricie region from west to east (and vice versa), from the Lanaudière region to Quebec City. It is made up of several interconnected sections. Each section, varying in length from 11 km to 16 km, has a start and finish point, allowing you to hike one or more sections consecutively. As the National Trail is a linear trail, you’ll either have to hike a section back and forth, or arrange for transportation at the end of the section to return to your starting point.
The trail is accessible in summer and winter. However, some parking lots are only open three seasons.
What is the National Trail?
The aim of the National Trail project is to create a continuous trail of some 1,650 km in Quebec, dedicated to hiking and snowshoeing. Once completed, the trail will become part of a Canada-wide network, the idea for which was first proposed in 1977 by hikers from across Canada.
