The Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles is an ensemble of natural environments, lakes, islands, marshes and riverbanks, animated and managed by the Éco-Nature organization. It provides access to the Rivière des Mille-Îles. This 42 km-long river rises in Lac des Deux-Montagnes to the west and ends at the mouth of the St. Lawrence and Rivière des Prairies to the east. It is renowned for its shoals, which make it a shallow river over three-quarters of its surface area. This is one of the reasons why there are virtually no recreational boaters on the river.
Of the river’s 110 islands, some 20 are accessible from the park, and a dozen have been designated ecological refuges by the Quebec government. Flora and fauna can be observed on foot, by canoe or kayak. The park boasts 8 km of hiking trails, some of which are located on islands and accessible by boat.
During the summer season, you’ll have access to the interpretation center. It includes games, posters, naturalized animals, aquariums and audiovisual equipment, and offers visitors mini-exhibitions to learn about ecosystems, flora and fauna, and various phenomena related to the river.
In winter, a 7.0 km circuit is laid out for classic skiing, walking, snowshoeing and sledding (keep an eye out for the Chouette Rayée or the Grand Pic!). Skate on the river between the forest of Île Darling and the picturesque village of Vieux Sainte-Rose. The skating rink stretches for over a kilometer.
