Grand-Coteau Park

This former vacation spot, known as Lac Henri, was very popular between 1950 and 1985, but was far from well developed. In the 1990s, the town began negotiations with Hydro-Québec and other landowners around the park. By 2006, the park had grown to 190 hectares, a far cry from the original 10 hectares.

Also known as l’Étang-du-Grand-Coteau in its early days, the park boasts two lakes hidden in the groves and tall pines – one recreational, the other wilder – as well as flora and fauna typical of the region. Birdwatchers are delighted by the many species of birds attracted by the abundant flora and woodland cover. From north to south, it takes more than three hours to walk through the Grand-Coteau park.

What’s more, this environment, which has been preserved as far as possible in its original natural state, is ideal for a wide range of activities. Lovers of nature, flowers and trees will enjoy strolling along the trails around the lakes, or climbing the hillside, where they’ll come across three other lakes hidden in the forest.

Families enjoy a safe space for young children’s play, picnics, outdoor games and bike rides. The bike path that runs along Montée Masson and through the town of Mascouche has been integrated into the park. A rock-dust trail circles the pond.

In winter, the park is transformed, with a huge ice rink covering the waters of the pond. Nearby, a slide is set up for the very young. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails criss-cross the park, winding their way up the hillside.
