A must for outdoor activities in the region! The park comprises two sectors: the Old Forest with 10 km of trails and numerous family activities, and the Grande tourbière de Villeroy with 3 km of trails, including 1.2 km of boardwalk. The latter is in the process of becoming a protected ecological reserve.
The Old Forest sector is a prime location for hiking, biking and snowshoeing. The site has enormous potential for bird and mushroom watching, as well as being home to some remarkable forest species. A stroll along the trails will reveal the mysterious and fierce Rivière Noire. Dogs on a leash are allowed in this area.
The Grande tourbière de Villeroy is a conservation and interpretation site. While walking in the heart of nature, discover the particularities of a peat bog and the origin of the region following the retreat of the Champlain Sea. Many species of fauna and flora have settled here. Birdwatchers will find the field maub and the rufous-crowned warbler. Plants include Virginia woodwarden, fringed-throated plathanthera and aquatic perennial cottongrass, not to mention sphagnum peat moss that can grow to depths of over a metre. Sarracenia purpurea is widespread. This elegant and mysterious plant is a carnivore, attracting insects with the scent of its nectar. Dogs are not allowed in this area.
