Discreet lake and Mount K2

Kanasuta trails (La Yol or Kanasutra)

Hiking trails in mountainous terrain with good gradients that require a little effort. Mainly made up of a loop of over 8 km, offering walkers magnificent vegetation and scenery. Once at the summit of K2, the views are exceptional, with the surrounding mountains and lakes visible far into the distance. The trails are marked with orange tape and a few signposts. They are passable all year round, but not recommended on rainy days when the rocks are slippery, especially when crossing “La Caillasse d’Enfer”.

To get there from Rouyn-Noranda, take route 117 west to the Kanasuta ski resort, 32 km from Rouyn-Noranda. Once at the ski resort, you can park in one of the two available parking lots. From here, you’ll have the choice of starting the trail from the right or the left. If you choose to go west, you’ll have to follow a dirt road for 1.7 km, which is also used by snowmobilers in winter. You’ll need to watch out for the orange ribbons and sign on your left indicating the trail entrance. If you decide to go in from the east, take the snowmobile trail and after about 100 metres you’ll see a sign indicating the trailhead. A little further on, at about 275 metres, near a large spruce tree, take the trail on your left, or continue on the old cross-country ski trail, which will take you to the refuge. From here, continue to the right for the ascent of K2, also known as “La Montagne du Lion” because of its shape.
